So, I get this message monday night on facebook of all places!:

"So I feel like a total heel. In all of the hustle and bustle of the wedding planning, I forgot to include several people on my guest list...including you guys! How could I forget two of my best friends from high school? Forgive me!

So now I'm totally breaking ettiquette and such, but I don't want to disclude anyone! Would you two like to come? It's on Friday, June 26th, at 3:30 in Algonquin but the reception is at 6 in Crystal Lake. I know since I am asking you guys so late (seriously I feel really stupid that I forgot anyone) that it might not be possible to make the ceremony, but I wanted to make sure that you two knew you were welcome to come to the reception (and of course, ceremony!) if you want!

Love your friend who has apparently lost many brain cells,
Vicky"

Now, this is the girl I tried to hang out with back in '07 well @ the Carolina workshop up in Milwaukee. I say "tried" as I had to drive all over freakin' Milwaukee to find her, and irregardless that I gave her over 2 weeks notice on my trip, decided to schedule about 15 mins. to see me, and that was start to finish, including the time it took me to walk across the mall to find her well she was at a cafe w/some friends who were actually worthy of her time!

Now, if she'd had e-mailed like a month ago and said "oh, your address changed, sorry! I wanna invite you!" Maybe I'd have considered it, but come on now! We're such an after thought that you can't even bother e-mailing us, just waiting to see how many responces you get, then trying to get more people to fill chairs last minute?! That's just tacky, sorry!

A full weekend!!

Okay, so this weekend was BUSY!! Friday night was just the basic sorting, etc. of stuff, (which's turned into quite a pile of stuff, lemme tell ya!!) sat. was where the craziness began! Joey woke me up about 7:30 (as usual!) had to take dad's van in to the oil change place (Imagine short little me driving a conversion van; I needed to slide out of it, and pull myself up into it! But, it got there!) Then, when mom came back from her swimming class thing, went to haflagirl 's and picked up a futon she was looking to be rid of, stopped by another yard sale where I scored a small leaded glass hanging light for $5! (Needs some cleaning, but is good apt. sized!) and promptly pulled into the house just as the downpour started. After that, did lunch, then started to prep everything for the transport that night; 4 goldens from Elgin to Madison (which was a haul! Left abotu 6 to meet the lady, had dogs walked & stored & on the road by about 7-ish (she got lost, and the last dog was difficult; a blind, deaf & anemic one, that didn't like to walk so well, as he couldn't tell what was going on!) pulled into the meeting place about 8:30, unloaded all them again, walked them & handed off. (The blind one had some spunk when he found a nice, flat grassy patch to run on!) and promptly headed home. Some point in there I was sick; wasn't sure if it was from the meds again (my acne meds made me a bit woozy last tues. @ class) or what, but yeah, it wasn't fun! And, we had dinner about 11:30 @ IHOP. Long day!!

Sunday was the real insanity! Hoisted all of the boxes from the basement upstairs, which then lead to a mass vaccuming session, as some of that stuff hadn't been moved in months!! Also, have a nice, big empty spot on the floor, where a pile & a bookshelf used to be, which's now been converted to a phot gallery! Mom & I staged everything, photoed almost all my armor for ebay, a couple purses, still need to do a bunch of dance stuff (which I'll be bringing to class to give the girls first crack at), and when all was said & done, I had about 5-6 piles & boxes of stuff, some of my armor was gross, so we took a ride to my work & dumped the stuff in the dumpster, and vaccumed out that room as well.

About 1/2 way through, mom said her camera battery was running out, and as I was heading up to find the new one, we both heard a weird noise... Upon investigating it, I was greeted by Joey, using his nimble houndy hunting skills to CLIMB UP the futon!! The base was leaned against a wall, so the slats were exposed, and there's his dumb butt, climbing it like a ladder!! How he inteded to get down w/those big old paws of his, I have no idea!! So, I hoisted him up, turned around, set him down, and gently guided him out the door! Dumb dog looked very pelased with himself! Whatever got into him, I couldn't guess! Perhaps he smelled kitties on it? I dunno!

And, yes, after all of that, my ankle is still in one piece. We'll see about doing anything in relevee & leveling, but so far walking is good. It's more of a pain in the back of my shin, than in my ankle now, which I'm taking as a good sign!

Blah, back to work I go...

Okay, so I decided after talking to some impartial folks, that it'd be best for me to probably rent instead of buying a place, and I contacted my friend's apt. complex. They allow not only ALL SIZES of dogs, but multiple dogs, requiring only temprament tests (apparently drooling on the tester, and rolling over for bellyrubs = fine!) and that's it. Major happy! That's what I need! Well, anyway, I e-mailed them to find out the current rates, and see what they'd be if I could lock them in, and I find out that they're LESS than they were a couple mos. ago when I checked on them! In fact, not only are they less, but the base price of the 810 sq. ft. is what the original price was of the 700 sq. ft. in March!! I have a number of floor plans to choose from, and realistically, for me they'll all be as big or bigger than my parent's place, which's cool, but yeah, seriously happy me!! Even w/utilities, I should come in at about $600 or so/mo. which's the upper end of what I was looking to spend. Happy me! Nothing is set in stone yet, but so nice to see that the prices have dropped a lot! (and, my friend could get a hell of a bonus if I do sign a lease; I think the current offer was almost 1 mos. free rent!)

Mom got a call a couple of days ago from the nursing home saying gramps fell. Nothing big, landed on his butt, he didn't want to wait for them to get out of bed, or to ask for help, or to use the walker. They were there right away, and got him up, he was fine, but annoyed. (He's always been a bit ornery, so this is nothing new!) Well, yesterday, the same thing happened again, but this time, he was still screaming, so mom rushed right over. Thought he hurt his leg, but couldn't feel anything out of whack, so they called for the mobile x-ray guys. After them not showing for a couple hrs., they put gramps in the transport van, and hauled him to the ER for x-rays... The long & short is, he's got a fractured hip! So, mom's distraught, and didn't get many details from them 'cause she was so overwhelmed, and they wanna do surgery this afternoon on him.

Oi! My poor mom just can't get a break! All this, on top of the rest of the craziness, plus she officially lost her job due to all of this, and they still haven't tracked down the evil aunt to serve her the papers for the order of protection yet. She's made at least 2 apperances at gramps' house, and my uncle (who lives there as well), has called the police on her 2x, and each time she mysteriously vanishes before they get there. Sneaky bugger! But, they'll get her eventually, we found out where she works, so they can get her there (if she's still working, we're kinda doubtful on that. Which'd explain the urgency to get her hands on so much cash, eh?) and her condo, and the assn, and her daughter's house, etc. Amazing how many people crawled out of the woodwork to help rid gramps of her!

Anyway, yeah, just one weekend with no emergencies would be great! Really!!

Oh, in other news, I found the skirt moves sheet, that cleared up most of my questions! And, doc. did give me meds for an ear infection. I don't think it's that bad, as it really isn't all that painful, but if it still has fluid behind the ear drum when I go back in 10 days, we start trying to figure out what's really going on. It feels as if it's draining slightly, so hopefully this will continue. Ear issues suck!!

Back to looking busy at work, and getting ready for a 3 day weekend!

Okay, so like right before christmas, the shelter I volunteer at had "volunteer appreciation night" dinner. I was walking around aimlessly looking for a place to sit when this girl goes "OMG! Karrie?!" Turns out I went to elementary school with her. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL and she recognized me! I vaguely recalled her name, but that's about it; no clue how she knew me. I think we used to ride the bus together she said, couldn't tell you anything else about her, but I think she was a year behind me or so.

Anyway, I told her about the program I volunteered with training the dogs, and she said she was interested in it, so she talked to the volunteer coordinator, and sure enough, I came to class & our small 4 person class is now a 6 person class, w/3 new people in it. (Well, 1 or 2 were in it before, just not when I was, they took winters off; smart them!) Anyway, I realized about 2 weeks ago that one of the guys in class looked really familiar. I wracked my brain, and figured out I used to be in class w/someone w/their first name back in elementary school & middle school. I wondered if it was in fact the same person, but was like no way in hell could 2 people I went to elementary school with BOTH be in the same class w/me. (That's make 50% of the class mind you.) Well, today the teacher sent out e-mails, that had last names in it. It IS the kid from elementary school! WTF?! Seriously, how the hell did I randomly become part of a program w/2 other people (who didn't really seem like they know each other) who I knew like 15 yrs. ago?!?! SERIOUSLY, this is creepy!!!

Too bad I'm still waiting for a settlement check & Aflac. Meh, hopefully everything'll pan out before my trip.

Also, I won my battle w/the System Guard 2009 virus! Damn thing got onto my work comp. yesterday & wouldn't leave!! Well, after playing w/stuff in the command line (damn am I glad I learned to navigate dos when I was younger! And that they have cheat sheets for doing so!) and throughing some anti-spyware at it (which I was doing anyway, but the CFO bitched at me about until the IT guy told her I was using the right one), it's gone. Happy me! That damned thing was not only annoying, but wouldn't let me do anything on the internet!! Plus, I asked hth it could've gotten on in the first place & was told I didn't do anything! Apparently said virus is nasty, and imbedded into random websites that it got on just from me visiting the website. The suspect is either yellowpages.com or twopair.com (the site for America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses).

Incidently, I went to the eye doc yesterday, he too said it was odd that my eyes were so different (the 3rd one this year to say so!) and was able to find me a new brand of contacts that're thicker, like the ones I have now, but are breathable, and so far MUCH more comfortable!! I've only had to use the eye drops like 2-3x today, I usually use them about 10-15+ times well at work. So, that's a definate improvement!! My perscription changed, so everything's a little weird still, but it's so nice to have 100% better vision again. My glasses weren't fitting right & were begining to give me headaches, and my contacts were just not cutting it (especially well driving!) so, this is good. Also, got some new glasses on order. I don't mind glasses, they're quicker & easier than contacts, so I wear mine quite often. So, yeah, got those ordered up. Were pretty much what I was budgeting for too! So, I did well! (Though, I purposely put back some CUTE frames, they were babyphat, but I draw the line @ $129 for rims!! That's about what a whole pair, w/exam & the works are!) Also, I gott a talk at the folks about ordering up the new contacts, as I can get credit for 2 unopened boxes I have currently, plus, and this is the kicker, the new ones are cheaper than the old ones! I was SO HAPPY to find that one out!!

Other than that, the next few weeks should be interesting, lots to do! I should see when the blooms'll be performing in Feb @ Martini Room. Would be nice to go see everyone dance, I don't think I ever got to just sit & watch there before!

So, everyone who's ever gone to college knows the bane of freshman Chemistry (or CH 101 at MTU!) I recall hear about this, and getting it in an e-mail when I was a student at MTU, and it was funny as hell, but I never saw it again.

Today a co-worker e-mailed it to me; it's funny as hell, and I decided to post it so everyone could have a laugh today. Enjoy!!
The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid term. The answer by one student was so 'profound' that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well :

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today.
Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding
at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, 'It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,' and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct......leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting 'Oh my God.'

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED AN
A+

The puppy decided to chew up my cellphone!! I don't know where he found it, but he pulled the phone cover off it, and busted a piece off. It was just the antena, and I was able to pop it back on, but there's still some teeth marks in it! How utterly vexing!!

So, I put that as my status on facebook... Well, randomly, about 15 mins. later a friend of mine posts that her beagle got ahold of some trident gum from her purse, ate the whole pack, and most of the wrapping.

Warning bells went off... Trident contains Xylitol, an artifical sweetner that is apparently HIGHLY TOXIC to dogs!!

I told her I'd heard as much, and she should call the vet... Fast forward a couple of hrs., and she googled it, found that it wasn't toxic, it was HIGHLY TOXIC, called the vet, told them what the pooch ate and how much, and was ordered to bring her in asap!!

The vet was able to induce vomiting, pumped her stomach, and loaded her w/charcoal to help stop the absorbtion of the xylitol. All total from the time she ate it to the time her stomach was pumped was about 20 mins., so they got most, if not all, of the gum out. The dog was taken from her, and put in the back to be worked on immediately by the vet (think human ER visit), and after a few minutes, she was worried & asked the office girl "So, how bad is this anyway?" she said that the vet tech would be out to explain it. The vet came out instead... said that 2-3 pcs. of the gum are fatal, if not treated, in a dog Winnifred's size. (She's about 25 lbs.!) So, 16 pcs., and she'd have been dead this afternoon, or evening at the latest!!

I asked J how she was doing, and she said that they were able to stabelize her glucos levels, but she's not out of the woods completely yet! If her glucos levels can stay constant for the next 14 hrs., then she should recover, but they're waiting to see what her liver looks like also.

Apparently Xylitol is a 2 fold problem. It causes low blood sugar, which is apparently worse than high blood sugar, and it also attacks the liver.

My friend is obviously very distraut over all of this! I'm just glad that fate aligned how it did; I saw a posting on our basset e-list about it a couple weeks ago, and when Crispin ate the gum (like 2 pcs, but he's 50 lbs., so no ill effects!) a couple mos. ago, a lot of the folks on the list were like OMG, bad!!! And, it just so happened that I was on FB to get my friend's message, who was still on FB, and able to call the vet and race the pup over. She also has MS (my friend, not her pup, the dog is epileptic, or has some sort of seizure disorder), so this really was lucky that she was having a good day. Fate just aligned well, and we're both hoping that it continues to do so, as it'd be lousy to loose Winnifred, aka Fred now!!

So, if you have friends or family w/dogs, please pass on this warning about Xylitol!!

http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2007-03-18-xylitol-sweetener_N.htm

Even just a little bit can be fatal! Not too sure about how it effects cats, but Trident is no longer going to be gracing my home, I doubt if it'll be in my friend's house again either!!

So, so far it looks like Joey is fine; I figured he would be, but he's my first dog, and a "dwarf breed" (they're build much like little people humans; thicker bones & a lot stalkier) and a mutant at that, so I still haven't fully got him figured out. But, doc says probably nothing to be terribly concerned about; either a fatty tumor or a pair of cysts on his shoulders. Doc did say that he could be wrong, and it could be something else entirely, but he feels it's probably that, and both are way too little to needle aspirate or biopsy yet.

Now, well this sounds all well & good, I also need to point out that that's what *both* vets said about his cyst last spring!! I think it was about March that we found that, and, of course, I freaked out hard core. Then, "oh, it's just a cyst, we sent of the fluid to pathology, didn't get any of the wall cells, but definately a cyst." Now, if you heard Joey holler when they took said sample, you'd have thought they were trying to rip his ears off!! Turns out, 6 mos. later when I find the bump on his rump, that it's actually a "granuloma, probably caused from a puncture wound." Now, I certainly don't make it a habit to go around stabbing my dog, and I don't think any one else does either, so I kinda doubt that was it, the only logical conclussion that vetman could give me was that it was from the needle aspirate. He also said after the fact that it "didn't look good..." Now, Crispin, mom & dad's old spaniel, has pleanty of fatty tumors, they don't bug him, he doesn't poke at them, and everyone is happy. I just wanted to make sure that this *is in fact* the case! I mean, I'd hate for it to be something nasty and dibilating down the road, when we could have taken care of it now, and not had anything else to worry about, you know?

Anyway, so $55 later, my hound should be fine, his eye is red 'cause it's irritated, but nothing really wrong, and he's lost almost 10 lbs. since Sep! Maybe I should try the green bean diet too!! Nah, they don't taste good with low carb cereal...

So, I talked to the repair shop tonight, the estimate for my car was over $1900!! Thankfully, Progressive is taking care of the whole thing, so that's not a problem, but damn... They did tell me last weekend, though, that the other girl had $2500 worth of damage to hers, so it's actually lower than I thought it'd be! And, they did say that they need to take out the wrinkles on the quarter panels, but didn't say if they'll be straightened & redone, or replaced, or what, nor did they say that they needed to tweak the frame, so I'm a bit unsure about that. In the mean time, I have a SWEET 09 Cobalt!! Like for real, the seats a little high for me, but other than that, I could get used to that car. It's not mine, but, if anyone's looking for a car, I'd suggest looking at the Cobalt. Also, I gotta call Enterprise, they thought I'd only need the car through friday, and now the shop says nope, it'll be monday. Blah! I just want my car back! I don't like driving around in a loaner in the snow!

So, my co-worker and I go out to lunch on wednesdays, you know, just to get out of the office. Well, today at said lunch, I managed to drop my purse. In so doing, I checked my stuff, found nothing missing, and went on with lunch. After awhile, I notice my cell phone isn't in it's slot. I figured I left it at work, and it was on the floor, next to where I keep my purse. Nope, no phone!!

So, I call the phone like 3 times, and hear nothing. I call said resteraunt again, and guess what was just handed in? Yup, my cell phone!!

So, now afterwork I need to go & get said phone, and then go to the chiropractor, go home & change for our show, make it to R's by 7 for a run through, and make it to the venue by 8, dressed & made up, sans jewlry... Yeah, can we say not fun?!?!

I should've looked harder for the phone there, but I moved the chairs and looked under the table, and it *wasn't there.* My co-worker concurred. General idea is that it fell, and either flew, or was kicked, under the table behind us, which had people at it, but I'm not so sure what happened...

Not a good afternoon, that's for sure!!
